This Privacy Policy explains how Near and Far Events LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use nearandfarevents.com (the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
We practice data minimization — we collect only what's needed to run the service.
Information you provide directly:
- Account information (if you register): name, email address, and/or phone number, password (stored encrypted)
- Zipcode preference: the area you want to see events for
- Submitted content: events, business listings, and related descriptions you post
- Payment information (advertisers only): processed entirely by Stripe; we never see or store your card number
- Communications: emails or messages you send us
Information collected automatically:
- Log data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, time and date of visit

- Analytics: aggregate, anonymized usage statistics
Information we do NOT collect:
- Precise GPS location
- Date of birth or age
- Government-issued IDs or Social Security numbers
- Sensitive personal information (race, ethnicity, religious or political beliefs, biometric data)
- Information from anyone we know to be under 13 years old
2. How We Use Information
- To operate the Service: showing you events in your area, processing your submissions
- To communicate with you: account confirmations, password resets, listing approval notifications
- To improve the Service: aggregate usage analysis
- To prevent abuse: detecting spam, fraud, and policy violations
- To comply with legal obligations
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers who help us operate the Service:
- Stripe (payment processing for advertisers)
- Render (hosting infrastructure)
- Google Analytics (anonymized usage statistics — can be disabled by declining cookies)
- Legal compliance: when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights and safety
- Business transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale

5. Data Retention
- Past events: archived or deleted approximately 12 months after event date
- Account data: kept while your account is active; deleted within 30 days of account deletion request
- Moderation logs: retained 24 months for safety and dispute resolution
- Payment records: retained 7 years as required by tax law
6. Security
We use industry-standard security: HTTPS encryption in transit, hashed passwords (bcrypt), JWT authentication, server-side validation, rate limiting, and access controls. We voluntarily align our security program with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework in conformance with the Ohio Data Protection Act (ORC Chapter 1354). No system is perfectly secure; in the unlikely event of a breach we will notify affected users in compliance with applicable law.
7. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. Contact us at hello@nearandfarevents.com if you believe a child has provided us information.
8. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access it from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S. This Service is not directed at users in the European Union, United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions outside the U.S.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be announced at least 30 days in advance via a banner on the Service or by email to registered users. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
