Community Guidelines

Last updated: May 15, 2026

Near and Far Events exists to help neighbors discover what's happening in their community. These Guidelines keep that experience trustworthy and useful for everyone.

What's Welcome

  • Real community events: concerts, festivals, sports, church events, government meetings, fundraisers, school activities, farmers' markets, art shows
  • Honest business listings in the directory
  • Accurate dates, times, locations, and pricing
  • Family-friendly content (the Service is rated for general audiences)

What's Not Allowed

  • Fake or fraudulent listings — events that don't exist, scam ticket sales, phishing schemes
  • Counterfeit tickets or unlicensed resale
  • Illegal activity — events that violate state or federal law
  • Hate speech, harassment, or threats targeting individuals or groups
  • Adult or sexually explicit content
  • Misleading medical or financial claims — investment seminars promising returns, unproven medical treatments, etc.
  • Copyright infringement — submitting images, posters, or content you don't own or have permission to use
  • Impersonation — pretending to be a person or organization you're not
  • Spam — duplicate submissions, irrelevant promotional content, excessive submissions
  • Malicious links — phishing, malware, or scam URLs

How Moderation Works

  1. You submit an event or listing
  2. Our automated systems check for spam, malicious URLs, and obvious policy violations
  3. A human moderator (administrator or trusted "Local Insider") reviews and approves, edits for clarity, or rejects
  4. Approved content goes live; rejected content is removed with a brief reason emailed to you
  5. Events automatically expire after their end date and are archived

Local Insiders

Local Insiders are trusted community members granted permission to publish events without admin approval. They are still bound by these Guidelines. Local Insider status can be revoked at any time for violations.

Reporting Violations

If you see content that violates these Guidelines:

  • Email hello@nearandfarevents.com with the event link and a brief description of the issue
  • For copyright infringement, see our DMCA Policy
  • For privacy concerns, see our Privacy Policy

Consequences

Depending on severity, violations can result in:

  • Content removal
  • Warning emailed to the submitter
  • Suspension of account
  • Permanent ban
  • Referral to law enforcement (in cases of fraud, threats, or illegal activity)

Appeals

If your content was removed and you believe the decision was incorrect, reply to the rejection email with an explanation. A different moderator will review.
